2009-06-02: ICBR and IFAS lead HPC Phase III Expansion
ICBR and IFAS lead HPC Phase III Expansion In January 2009, the Phase III expansion of the UF High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster was completed. The effort to build the coalition started in early 2007, with planning complete in November of 2007. This expansion brought the total computing capacity of the HPC cluster to 2,500 cores, which translates to about 10 Tflops (floating point operations per second).

2009-04-30: Reception Officially Opens Phase III Expansion
The succesful completion of the HPC Center Phase III expansion was recognized today at a reception held outside of the new computer room in Larsen Hall. In attendance was UF President Dr. Machen and Vice President for Research Dr. Phillips. Each gave a brief statement recognizing the contributions and importance of the HPC Center to research at the University of Florda.

Dr. Paul Avery, Physics
Dr. Avery was the original HPC Center investor. His initial $200,000 investment combined with com- mitments from CLAS and OIT for staffing, additional equipment, and machine room improvements marked the creation of the HPC Center in 2004. Dr. Avery's vision was that of a shared-resource facility that could support his Open Science Grid research as well as the HPC community within the University. <more>
